![]() This piano has a warm, sweet, singing quality to the tone, with a great sustaining power, and a dynamic range that is unusual for a vertical piano. if i had been able to find one available that was properly prepared, i would have gotten this piano instead of a grand. but they can be totally sublime pianos, for uprights. lots of dealers don't prep them properly. Petrof 131: the only upright i found within a reasonable price range worth having. much too bright for my taste, and rather a simpleminded tonal palette. they remind me of yamahas, and not in a good way. they do have a nice smooth, quick action, however. i played dozens of them, continuing to think i'd find some that were not like this, but i never did. they have a clear tone, but it is rather two-dimensional. unlike the older schimmels, the new ones are very bright. Schimmel: the scale design of these pianos, i'm told, has been changed in the past few years. These are just my own highly subjective and biased impressions based on nothing more than my tastes and preferences, but i did spend quite a bit of time with the instruments you are considering.
